About us:
Mary Reed is the youth minister here at Our Lady of Grace, volunteering her time with our youth group “Youth Coming Together” since its beginning in October 1978. She feels belonging to a youth group gives our youth a chance to be a part of their church community and helps them sort out their values and beliefs with the foundation of our faith and a sense of love surrounding them. She believes that youth ministers must help the youth believe in themselves, and to know how very special each of them is.
Our youth group meets on Sunday at 6:30pm (6th grade and up) and on Wednesday at 7:30pm (8th grade and up). Sunday is more of a social evening where the youth can come and be with their friends play basketball, volleyball, or just share time sitting and talking.
On Wednesday we have meetings that pertain to issues or problems that out teens and young adults face in today’s society. Our youth are also involved in community service projects, retreat programs, our yearly musical productions, and special events during Christmas, Holy Week, and Easter. In all of these areas we hope to give our youth the opportunity to use their God-give talents, whether it be leadership roles, acting, music, singing, dance, art, or sometimes, it’s just their presence offering a welcoming smile, a listening ear, and a kind word. Youth group is a place where kids go to share their ideas, beliefs, problems, successes, and failures, a place where they can be themselves, a home away from home.
